My Annual Podcast Awards!!!

Since I (1) listen to a lot of podcasts, and (2) have a blog, I believe I am qualified to talk about my favorites podcasts of 2019.

Favorite Podcast That I Guested On In 2019
Runners-Up: Back to the Bins, Batgirl to Oracle: A Barbara Gordon Podcast, Batman Books: The Dark Knight in Prose, DC 50 Years Ago (sort of), Good Patron, & Trentus Magnus Punches Reality.
Winner: DC: OCD. Em and I were able to talk about (and defend) one of our all-time favorite comic stories, the very controversial Identity Crisis.

Best Produced Podcast
Runners-Up: The Classic Tales Podcast, No Agenda, SuperSonic Pod Comics.
Winner: The Done-in-One Wonders Podcast Wonder Show, hosted and produced by the late Xum Yukinori, who sadly passed away in December 2019.

Off Into the Sunset Award, for a show that wrapped up its mission in (or around) 2019, and rode off victoriously into the sunset.
Runners-Up: Bat-Books for Beginners, The Fantasticast, See You Space Cowboy.
WinnerIn Country. An excellent podcast ostensibly about the Marvel comic book series The 'Nam, but which was really about a wide range of Vietnam War and related pop culture. Excellent show, start to finish.

Where Have You Been All My Life? Award, for a show that started before 2018, but that I didn't start listening to (or even heard of, in some cases) until 2019.
Runners-Up: The Comics Alternative, Comics For Fun & Profit, LadyBrains, The Legendarium.
Winner:  Like Trees Walking. Michael J Nelson (from Mystery Science Theatre 3000 and his pastor discuss Biblical and pop culture topics in a casual and entertaining way.

Podfaded But Not Forgotten Award, for a show that ended (or maybe seems to have ended) in 2019, and it's hard to know if or when it's coming back.
Runners-up: Beetlemania, The History of the Early Church, Into a Larger World, It's Clobberin' Time, The Mighty Thorcast, Two Geek Soup.
Winner: Superman Fan Podcast. My hope is that Billy Hogan brings this show back, but even if he never does, it remains one of my all-time favorites.

Back From The Dead Award, for shows that seemed to maybe have been dead, but released at least one episode in 2019!
Runners-up: Around Comics, At the Intersection of East and West, Authentic Life Radio, Bailey's Batman Podcast, Dinner 4 Geeks, Fantastic Fourcast.
Winner: More Than One Lesson. After being off for just over a year, Tyler Smith has brought this excellent show back, which provides movie talk for the discerning Christian.

SPECIAL BONUS AWARD: Favorite Podcast From The United Kingdom That Mailed Me Cool Stuff For Winning A Contest and was Totally NOT a Bribe: The MarksMess Podcast. Katherine and Charlotte Adams host a wonderful show about all aspects of pop culture, while also struggling to keep their wacky dad Mark in line. Which is not easy.

And now on to the two most prestigious awards ...

Favorite New Podcast of 2019
Runners-Up: A Christian Gaming Podcast, The Babylon Bee, DC 50 Years Ago, Help My Unbelief, Magazines and Monsters, The OneVOICE Podcast.

Winner: SUPERSONIC Pod Comics, a connected universe of super hero audio dramas. Exciting stories, solid voice acting, and excellent production values. It's like a comic book crossover -- for the ears!

and ......

Favorite Overall Podcast of 2019
Runners-Up: Arsenal Vision Post Match Podcast, The Editors, No Agenda, The Tolkien Professor.

Winner: Back to the Bins. I listen to a lot of comic book podcasts, and this one is a consistent favorite. Every Saturday, it pops to the top of my playlist. Whether it is Paul, Bill & Scott, or some combination of them with a guest or two, this is always an entertaining listen.
